Seeking a Head of Music – Plenty Campus

We are seeking an experienced and passionate music educator and leader to join our Plenty Campus as Head of Music.

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), ongoing teaching opportunity with a three-year Position of Leadership tenure as Head of Music – Plenty Campus. Reporting to the Director of Music and Deputy Principal / Head of Plenty Campus, this significant leadership role is responsible for the strategic development, delivery and ongoing success of a vibrant Foundation to Year 12 Music program. 

The role encompasses classroom music, co-curricular music and an extensive instrumental music program, providing students with diverse opportunities to learn, perform, create and develop a lifelong appreciation for music. Working closely with the Director of Music and Director of The Arts, you will lead curriculum implementation, foster excellence in Music education and performance, and contribute to a culture of creativity, collaboration and character. 

This is an exciting opportunity to lead an established and highly regarded Music program while maintaining a strong connection to classroom teaching, student learning and performance.

What you will do

As Head of Music, you will work collaboratively with campus leaders, music staff and key stakeholders to deliver a dynamic and engaging Music program.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the implementation and ongoing development of the Plenty Campus Music program from Foundation to Year 12.
  • Teach Music and lead by example through high-quality classroom practice, inspiring students and contributing to a culture of excellence in Music education.
  • Oversee classroom music, instrumental music and ensemble programs, ensuring engaging and diverse learning and performance opportunities for students.
  • Lead, mentor and support classroom and itinerant Music staff, fostering collaboration, growth and professional excellence.
  • Coordinate concerts, performances, camps, tours, rehearsals and Music events, including collaboration on cross-campus co-curricular performances.
  • Work closely with the Director of Music, Director of The Arts and campus leaders to deliver a consistent and contemporary One-School Music program.
  • Manage resources, budgets, operational requirements and compliance obligations associated with the Music program.

Who you are

You are an accomplished music educator with the ability to inspire students, lead staff and foster a vibrant culture of Music across the School.

You will ideally bring:

  • Relevant teaching qualifications and current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a Music or Performing Arts environment.
  • Experience as a performing musician with broad knowledge across a range of musical styles.
  • Experience leading bands and orchestral ensembles, with choral conducting experience viewed favourably.
  • A proven ability to lead, motivate and develop teams of Music educators.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary Music curriculum, co-curricular programs and innovative teaching practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues.
  • A commitment to child safety, continuous improvement and educational excellence.
