Seeking a Science Laboratory Technician 

As a key member of the Professional Services team, reporting to the Curriculum Leader - Science, you will provide day-to-day support in the Science Labs — working closely with science teachers and the wider school community to ensure lessons run smoothly and spaces are safe, organised and well-prepared for learning. 

This is a full-time, ongoing position at Ridgeway Campus commencing in Term 2. The role is term time only, working across 39 weeks of the school year. 

What you will do 

The Science Laboratory Technician supports the effective operation of the School’s science laboratories and preparation areas. 

In this role you will: 

  • Prepare apparatus, chemicals and materials for practical classes and demonstrations 
  • Maintain laboratories and preparation areas to ensure they are safe, organised and ready for teaching and learning 
  • Manage the safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals in accordance with compliance and safety regulations 
  • Maintain chemical registers, safety data sheets and laboratory safety documentation 
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and coordinate the ordering of equipment and materials 
  • Assist Science teachers with practical experiments and demonstrations where required 
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and organise repairs or replacement when needed 
  • Work collaboratively with Science teachers to support engaging and effective practical learning experiences 

Who you are 

You’re a practical, detail-oriented team player who enjoys supporting engaging science learning experiences. You bring initiative, reliability and professionalism to everything you do. 

You have the necessary experience, knowledge and skills: 

  • Experience working as a laboratory technician, ideally within a secondary school environment 
  • Relevant qualification such as Diploma of Applied Science, Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or similar (Chemical Safety qualification desirable) 
  • Strong chemistry knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety, chemical handling and compliance requirements 
  • Experience with PASCO data logging systems highly regarded 
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage laboratory resources and equipment 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff 
  • Current Working with Children Check
